Location :
The hotel lies on a private beach front estate known as Balaclava along Turtle Bay ideally located between Port Louis 12 km (15 min.) and Grand Bay 12 km (15 min.), on the northwest coast, which is the sunniest region of Mauritius.
The distance to the airport is 60 km (45 min.). New trunk roads provide easy access to the hotel.
The Estate :
Immersed in the calming ambience of a tropical hideaway, 'Balaclava' is a historical estate dating back to the 18th century, with fascinating natural scenery. On the northern border flows Citron River, over dams and cascades into a shallow lagoon integrated in the lush tropical vegetation. Mysterious ruins remain to be explored as witnesses of the colonial times. Walkways and footpaths allow for long walks through the luxuriant garden of the estate with its magnificent views over the impressive mountain range of Mauritius.
Beach and Sea :
'Turtle Bay' is the first Marine National Park in Mauritius with well preserved underwater life. There are excellent snorkelling grounds right off the beach. Aquamarine warm waters and secluded golden sandy beach in front of the hotel is about 500 m long well protected by a coral reef. The bay has excellent conditions for all kind of water sports.

Golf - Available daily from 08.00 - 17.30 hrs. A 9-hole (par 29) golf course, designed by Graham Marsh and our golf-pro. Each hole can be played from 2 different tees. Driving range and putting green. Golf-pro available for individual lessons, beginners and advanced courses. No green fee for residents. Clubs rental: Rs. 500 per set. Private Lessons (45 mins): Rs. 690 per person Mini Golf – The Maritim Golf Enjoy a mini golf in the shade of our century old typical Mauritian “coqueluche” trees. Horse-Riding - The Maritim Equestrian Centre Open daily, from 09.00 to 16.00 hrs. Located next to the Ruins of Balaclava on our estate, our equestrian centre shelters 8 - 12 horses and ponies. A minimal fee will be applied for lessons in the corral and our ponies will make the joy of kids for special payable lessons. Beach or country-side rides. Tennis 3 Floodlit synthetic tennis courts. Rackets available from the hotel. Health & Fitness Gym - Open daily from 07.00 to 20.30 hrs. Located next to the pool, our 150 sqm fully air-conditioned gym is fitted out with a selection of modern equipment.
Water Sports:
Boat-House Open daily: 09.30 – 17.00 hours Fully equipped for all kinds of water sports. The following water sports are available completely free of charge and are not subject to any time limit. Activities and Facilities: Water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing (Hobie cats & Lasers), canoeing, glass-bottom boat trips, snorkelling, pedal boats. Collective lessons of water-ski and windsurf are also free of charge. Diving Centre - Open from Monday to Saturday, 09.00 to 16.00 hrs. Our Diving Centre caters well for those adventurous guests who want to see what’s under our warm and clear sea. The centre is fully equipped to take 10 divers on 2 dives per day. Equipment includes tanks, regulators, masks, snorkels, fins, weight belts, wet-suits and stabilizing jackets. ThecostperdiveisapproximatelyRs.1,200. Equipmentrental:Rs.250. The Diving Centre also offers the following, for a reasonable fee: - Refresher courses 2 - Resort courses - Night dives - CMAS courses (1 and 2 stars) - PADI courses.
All activities and excursions can be organized and purchased on your behalf at our Guest Services Counter. Cycling Bicycle Tours Tours through the Mauritian country side with a guide from the hotel. Cost as from Rs. 405 Bicycle Hire: Cost as from Rs. 290 Scooter Hire Cost as from Rs. 750 Mountain Hiking Tours Explore one of the peaks of the Port Louis/ Moka mountain range with a guide. The cost is approximately Rs. 790 per person. Sailing Cruises A comfortable sailing yacht is available in front of the hotel. The programme of day cruises includes trips to Port Louis, Grand Bay, Coin de Mire and the outer islands as well as leisurely sunset cruises. The cost per person range from Rs. 1,000. to Rs. 1,500. Big Game Fishing A fleet of motor yachts are available for half and full day charters. Trips start directly from the hotel jetty (no transport required). The equipment on board is according to IGFA standards. Approximate costs: Half day: Rs. 10,500 Full day: Rs. 12,500 Blue Safari Enjoy the depth and discover the undersea world with “Blue Safari” submarines based at Trou aux Biches (transport required). Rs. 2,240 per person. Para-sailing Para-sailing is also available directly from the hotel jetty. 15 minutes:Rs. 2,700 per person Under-sea Walk 15 minutes:Rs. 900 per person.
